Don’t Get Comfy / Nowhere

The choreography for this ballet was partially developed during my time as one of the selected choreographers at Dance Lab New York’s Fall 2021 Female Choreographers of Color in Ballet Lab, and presented in its nascent stages in a showing at the New York City Center studios. I continued crafting it on my own company, konverjdans, the following spring, using all six songs on Carmen Q. Rothwell’s album of the same name, and finally presented the full 25-minute ballet as a world premiere at konverjdans’ 2022 season performances of ‘Kwento’ (the Filipino word for “story”) at Triskelion Arts in Brooklyn, NY.

‘Don’t Get Comfy / Nowhere’ is wholly inspired by and based on Rothwell’s music and stories.
